E-2C Hawkeye: The history
THE LAST MISSION
The E-2 first flew in October 1960 and since then it has had several changes; E-2C and now E-2D advanced Hawkeye.
The E-2C Hawkeye provides carrier-based Airborne Command and Control to US, Allied, and Coalition units.
The squadron VAW 123 was established in April, 1967, and first flew the E-2C in 1973.
After 51 years, the World Famous SCREWTOPS are due to transition to the E-2D
The SCREWTOPS, along with Carrier Air Wing THREE, Carrier Strike Group TWO, and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) make up one of the most storied teams in Naval History.
While flying the E-2C, the squadron VAW-123 has supported operations around the globe, and from Desert Shield/Desert Storm to Operation Prairie Fire all of the way to the current Operation Prosperity Guardian
